Little Brown Mushroom
“Little Brown Mushroom” is the working title for a comic book series I am currently developing. Set in a hidden woodland colony, it follows a naïve mushroom whose life of endless toil and blind devotion is upended by chance encounters with animals and shifting seasons. Awakened to hunger, curiosity, and transformation, the mushroom discovers it can reshape its body, and perhaps its destiny. Cast out as an abomination, it embarks on a surreal odyssey: battling mold-zombies, bargaining with a ravenous snail, learning symbiosis from trees and lichens, and navigating insect empires that exploit fungi for their own ends. As its powers grow, so does a looming threat: a severed twin, born from its own discarded flesh, festers into a wrathful double spreading corruption through the forest. What begins as one mushroom’s search for autonomy escalates into a struggle that spans colonies, canopies, and entire ecosystems. Part folkloric odyssey and part ecological parable, Little Brown Mushroom explores survival, belonging, and transformation through the strange, secret lives of fungi. Below you’ll find early concept art and sample page layouts, offering a glimpse into the atmosphere, visual style, and storytelling approach of the project.
